STEREO-1 space probe data on the directivity of individual type III solar radio bursts at 169 MHz are used to construct a model of coronal structures wherein the type III bursts are scattered along a vertical sheet of overdense plasma (a coronal 'blade') overlying a chain of filaments surrounding an active center. The east-west size and position of the scattered image of a burst source, as measured from earth, is computed along with the directivity factor, as measured simultaneously from the space probe and earth, in order to compare the model with the observations. The results indicate that a good fit for both the fundamental and harmonics can be obtained if the overdensity factor of the denser region is less than 4, the harmonic source is located close to but not inside the overdense sheet, the fundamental source is far enough from the sheet for its radiation to escape over the latter, the scattering power of the surrounding medium is large enough to produce the required broadening of the fundamental beam, and the harmonics radiate forward.
