We used two large, statistically complete Catalogs of radio sources, the B3 (408MHz) and the 87GB (4850MHz), to study spectral index distribution versus flux density. We derived the relation spectral index-flux density in the range 30-4000mJy (408MHz) and we introduced a new definition of average spectral index of a radiosource population. We found that there is no evidence of any change in the average spectral index within the above-mentioned flux range, and that the sky distribution of spectral index is isotropic.
