Nine quasars in the range z(em) 2.20-3.54 were examined for a total of 350 uniformly defined Lyman-alpha absorption lines. It was found that the number density of the lines does not vary from quasar to quasar, and that the number density shows no obvious change with redshift. The properties of these lines are not different whether in the wing of the emission lines or in the continuum. The two-point correlation function of these lines is flat within the limit of the instrumental resolution. This is entirely different from the behavior of galaxies. These findings strengthen the view that these Lyman-alpha absorption lines originate in intergalactic clouds which are uniformly distributed throughout space.
