Based on more than 1200 IUE spectra of dwarf novae, we investigate the statistical properties of these systems, concerning the correlation of the spectra with parameters of the binary system. The results provide a way of testing the current accretion disk model and of understanding the physical conditions in dwarf novae. The present paper is restricted to IUE spectra of dwarf novae in quiescence. Our results show that the white dwarf, especially for the short-period and high-inclination systems, contributes considerably to the UV flux at short wavelengths in quiescence, while the accretion disk dominates the UV flux at long wavelengths, in particular for the systems above the period gap and with low inclinations. The equivalent widths of the emission lines in quiescence show strong dependence on the orbital period.
