An analysis is presented of the statistical characteristics and the distribution function of shear interferograms obtained during coherent illumination of objects through a turbulent atmosphere. Two cases of illumination - depending on the ratio of the transverse dimension of the illuminating aperture to the correlation radius of the phase fluctuations of the optical field in a turbulent atmosphere - are presented. A statistical interferogram model is compiled for both cases, and its dependence on the variance of phase fluctuations and on the number of independent spatial correlation regions of the optical field is analyzed.
