The durations, maximum intensities, and corrected areas of 16,342 H-alpha flare events during the years 1980, 1983, 1986 and 1987 are examined. The distributions of these parameters reveal some important properties of solar flare activity. In common with past studies, notably at X-ray and H-alpha wavelengths, it is found that there is no evidence to suggest that there is more than one class of event. It is concluded that there is no correlation between flare area and flare duration for the H-alpha events studied.
