Recent spectroscopic observations of SNR candidates and available data are used to study the evolutionary behavior of the line intensity ratios H-alpha/forbidden N II, 6717-A/6731-A (both from forbidden SII), and H-alpha/forbidden S II. It is shown that the first two ratios vary as a function of the expansion velocity of the SNR. Physical implications of the observed sequence are discussed in the framework of Cox's (1972) model of a shock wave propagating in the interstellar medium.
