Spectroscopic observations of HR Del, performed 11 - 13 years after its classical nova outburst, are presented. The most prominent features in the spectra are emission lines originating partly in the nebular shell and partly in the accretion disk. An improved spectroscopic period of the binary is given as well as improved system parameters and masses. Significant differences in the behaviour of the Balmer and He II λ4686 emission lines with respect to orbital phase are explained by the influence of a bright area in the accretion disk. This area has to be located at a position different from that of the classical "hot spot" of the standard model of cataclysmic variables. A thorough inspection of photometric observations performed by other authors yields obvious indications for periodic light variations in agreement with the spectroscopic model.
