An analysis of three 1975 plates of the variable star CI Cygni indicate very rapid cooling, quick expansion of the envelope, and an increase of the absorption lines due to s-process elements (especially the rare earths). These peculiar spectroscopic characteristics of CI Cygni show that the s-process nucleosynthesis takes place in stellar interiors; the observations may be used to confirm models such as that of Despain (1977) where neutron captures may occur in deeply mixed convective envelopes with base temperatures greater than 2 x 10 to the 8th K.
