We present a spectroscopic ephemeris of the polar V834 Cen based on timings of a narrow emission-line component which is attributed to the secondary star. Changes in the accretion geometry become obvious from the observed phase jitter of optical photometric minima and soft X-ray absorption dips. We estimate the mass of the accreting white dwarf using the model for the X/UV-illuminated hemisphere of the secondary star described in Beuermann & Thomas (1990).
