We present long-slit spectrophotometry of 40 merging or strongly interacting galaxy systems in the wavelength range 3650-7100 A. Along with optically selected objects, the sample includes 10 ultraluminous IRAS galaxies with evidence of ongoing merger activity. The data show a wide variety of phenomena, with spectra resembling those of isolated elliptical galaxies, early and late-type spiral galaxies, active galactic nuclei starbursts, and poststarburst systems.
