An improved spectral description of the central stars of six planetary nebulae, i.e., NGC 1360, A 36, A 7, NGC 4361, NGC 1535, and NGC 7293, is presented. Several absorption and emission features, previously undetected, are identified; of particular interest is the presence of O VI absorptions and emissions in some cases. A non-LTE analysis of hydrogen and helium profiles is performed in order to derive the effective temperature, log g, and helium abundance in the photospheres of these stars. A comparison of the positions of the six objects in the log g-log Teff plane with evolutionary tracks descending from the asymptotic giant branch suggests that their masses are in a narrow interval near 0.55 solar mass, which is in close agreement with the mass distribution of white dwarfs.
