The Gaia space mission is one of the cornerstone missions of the European Space Agency ESA. It will obtain high accuracy distances to a billion stars and additionally perform photometric and spectroscopic measurements of each object for astrophysical characterization. This proposal is part of a preparatory study for the Gaia data analysis. It aims to produce a library of blue and visual spectra of long period variables (LPVs). Based on this library we aim to find a bolometric correction formula for this type of star from a combination of the measurements produced by Gaia. The effect of stellar variability will be taken into account. The results shall allow to classify the LPVs measured by Gaia according to their pulsation mode.
