In the last 3 months of 2007 the Swift satellite detected 6 Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs) that were found by the VLA to have radio afterglows. For Southern Hemisphere GRBs, the ATCA can likewise be used to carry out follow-up radio observations for GRBs. We propose a radio afterglow detection and monitoring survey of the southern sky, consisting of monthly observations of a sample of newly discovered GRBs. The primary goal of this program is to select targets for high-resolution and high sensitivity observations using the new e-VLBI capability of the LBA, for measurements of the structures, velocities, and energetics of the afterglows. Goals of the ATCA program include: (1) obtaining data on southern GRBs to complement long running Northern Hemisphere surveys; (2) obtaining information on GRBs at declinations that cannot be reached by the VLA; (3) increasing the number of GRBs that are followed up in the radio so as to improve our chances of finding afterglows for exciting objects such as nearby GRBs and short duration GRBs. We expect that this program will pave the way to coordinated transient science with the new e-VLBI capabilities of the LBA, the broadband ATCA, and/or ASKAP.
