The construction of an atmospheric Cerenkov telescope (ACT) at a South Polar site is under consideration, in view of the long polar night's accommodation of nearly continuous observation of very high energy gamma-ray sources (400 hrs/month), the large concentration of candidate sources at high southern declinations, and the circumpolarity of the sky, which simplifies data analysis. ACT is envisioned as operating in conjunction with the South Polar Air Shower Experiment, thereby constituting a comprehensive-coverage cosmic gamma-ray facility.
