Rare multiwavelength observations of a solar prominence in May 1986 are presented. H-alpha and X-ray data are used to reveal properties of the cool and hot plasmas related to the prominence structure and activity. No X-ray emission is formed along the prominence cavity itself, which suggests a magnetically inert structure. X-rays are, however, associated with the footprint of the prominence, revealing the presence of hot plasma in loops adjacent to the prominence structure. These characteristics are examined in the light of previous solar prominence observations and models.
