Modern developments in quartz crystal timekeeping make it comparatively easy to construct an astronomical clock. The design of a solar-lunar clock, which displays the relative positions of Earth, Sun and Moon, is described and the information available from such clocks is explained. The paper continues with a discussion of the effects of lunar-solar generated periodic variations in local gravity upon pendulum clocks and the oceans, concluding with a method for the estimation of the time of high water for a given coastal location.
