A method is developed which measures Doppler broadening parameters or shifts without requiring the use of a spectrograph. The technique is similar to a Fourier transform spectrometer sensitive to one component in the interferogram of the source's light. The proposed filter combinations are stable (provided that the temperature of the thick brirefringent plates is kept constant), offer peak transmission similar to that of other spectrometers, and may have very large fields and equivalent widths. The technique is applicable to flux measuring light detectors (i.e., photomultipliers) and two-dimensional light detectors.
