We show that the luminosity distribution normal to the plane of external spiral galaxies can be fitted very well by a rather simple analytic expression corresponding to a model consisting of two different isothermal stellar components. The fit is so good that it seems not to be possible to extract more information from the luminosity distribtion alone.
