A simple method for modelling the evolution of a cloud of particles is given. This method, based on the assumption of a Gaussian distribution function, enables the author to treat the shape, velocity gradient and the stress tensor of the cloud. Two analytical solutions are given as examples. The first one, corresponding to moving groups of stars, shows focusing by galactic potential. The second one, appropriate to viscous gaseous discs (for example around a binary component), leads to a different form of expansion (a thick ring or flat disc) and to oscillation frequencies within the limits of an optically thick or thin ring, respectively.
