The existing theoretical model of self-modulation instability in the nonlinear waves propagation is adopted in this work. We want to investigate the possibility of self-modulation instabilities occurring in the electromagnetic waves propagating in the solar corona. It is found that only decimeter and meter radio bursts can produce the longitudinal and transverse self-modulation instabilities in the outer corona and that the optical, X-ray, and high frequency electromagnetic waves are unable to produce such modulation processes. This theoretical model is consistent with the observed fine structures of solar meter wave bursts.
