NGC 5897 is one of a number of halo globular clusters which, based on their inferred orbital parameters, have a high likelihood of being tidally distorted or disrupted by the Galactic potential field. Using MOSAIC images taken on the Blanco 4-meter telescope of a 4x4 degree field surrounding NGC 5897, we present deep, two color, stellar photometry to V ≈ 24. We use color selection and matched filter techniques to search for evidence of tidal tails extending from the cluster.
This work was made possible by a generous NOAO observing time allocation and is supported by a Space Interferometry Mission Key Project grant, NASA/JPL contract 1228235.
