The results of a search for nebulosity indicative of hot companion stars
near 633 southern hemisphere long-period variables with declination
southward of -20 deg on SRC southern-sky-survey J photographic plates is
reported. With the exception of the known close binary R Aqr, no
photographically visible circumstellar clouds are positively identified.
