A model is developed which permits the identification of the possible existence of planetary motion near the center of mass of a binary star system. Two primaries of equal mass revolve in elliptical orbits around their center of mass, and the third body oscillates with periodic motion along the axis of symmetry between two fixed symmetric points. Calculations for these conditions are then extended to consider unequal masses of two primaries, and a 'negative' mass is introduced into the calculations to simplify the solution. The total energy of the real system is expressed for both cases, and the theoretical and practical implications of the derived relations are mentioned. The results suggest that the existence of planets can be detected near the center of mass of binary star systems in actual observational situations.
