The discovery of non-thermal X-ray emission from Galactic supernova remnants (SNRs) has generated a considerable amount of interest among high-energy astrophysicists. This type of emission has been clearly detected in three shell-type Galactic SNRs: SN 1006, G266.2-1.2 and G347.3-0.5. In order to investigate the phenomenon of this emission in more detail, we have analyzed publicly-available observations made by X-ray observatories (such as ROSAT, ASCA, RXTE and Chandra) of a sample of shell-type Galactic SNRs. Spectra have been extracted from X-ray bright rims that are suspected to possess non-thermal components to their emission. Initial results and preliminary conclusions will be presented.
