NGC6231 is a well-studied young open cluster with many variable stars. We present a long-term project to map the variability in NGC6231 and to monitor the stability of the pulsational frequencies and amplitudes. This paper reports new results based on CCD time-series data optimised for the bright beta Cep stars as well as data optimised for much fainter stars. We detected, so far, 17 new variable stars in the cluster, including three delta Sct stars, three gamma Dor candidates, three SPB star candidates and one, possibly two, new beta Cep stars.
