An analysis of observations carried out since 1972 during periods of low solar activity at 20 and 25 MHz has failed to yield detections of local sources of the Slowly Varying Component. Bursts of high intensity can give rise to nonthermal radiation from the region of generation, producing a significant increase in the maximum brightness temperature of scans across the sun with a relaxation time for the process of 20-30 min. It is suggested that the sources observed on April 27 and 29, 1976 were probably of nonthermal nature.
