Twenty-one-cm observations of three nearby face-on spiral galaxies have been used to search for high-velocity H I clouds in these galaxies. The upper limits set to the mass of such objects are compared to those estimated for the high-velocity clouds (HVCs) in the Galaxy. It is shown that with the current sensitivity it is possible to detect in nearby galaxies objects like the HVCs in the Galaxy, provided these are massive enough (i.e., their distance from the sun is more than 20 kpc).
