A seach for H-alpha-emission objects covering an area of 42 sq deg in the Vela region of the Milky Way resulted in the discovery of 108 objects. UBV photographic photometry and approximate spectral classification on objective-prism plates of 1360 A/mm at H-gamma was also obtained for the objects discovered; two of then are early-type supergiants and 25 are recognized as OB stars. The limiting magnitude of the survey is about R equals 14.5 mag, and more than half of the objects were not previously known. Distance estimates for the Be stars show that we are able to reach distances up to about 10 kpc from the Sun.
