The authors present the preliminary results of a search for diffuse 0.5-2 keV band X-ray emission in the Andromeda galaxy (M31) using >500 ks of ROSAT PSPC data. Within the D25 radius of the galaxy and >5' away from the core they detect 445 sources. Removing their contribution reveals significant residual emission which can be accounted for by a combination of the extrapolation of the observed source counts and a contribution from stellar sources. The authors find that there is little evidence for diffuse X-ray emission from M31 in the 0.5-2.0 keV band.
