While the formation of low-mass stars is relatively well understood, the processes which drive the formation of intermediate-mass and high-mass stars are still under debate. Whether stars of different masses form through similar or distinct processes can be addressed in several ways. One of the most interesting constraints on the formation modes comes from the study of multiplicity of young stars as a function of mass. And, although multiplicity studies of low mass T Tauri stars have been quite exhaustive, an unbiased and systematic investigation of multiplicity among Herbig Ae/Be stars is still lacking.
We are therefore conducting a photometric and spectroscopic study of multiple systems among Herbig Ae/Be (HAEBE) stars, in order to detect close companions and investigate their properties. The frequency and degree of multiplicity of HAEBE systems will provide new constraints on their formation mechanism.
In this poster we will present the photometric part of the survey we are undertaking.
