Macroscopic superstrings of masses ≥ (masses of superclusters of galaxies) fragment very fast in a hierarchical manner. The fragmentation tends to occur from states with minimum energy for a given angular momentum. The relation between mass and angular momentum for these states agrees with the one observed for astronomical objects. In addition, we ask for the requirements with respect to energies, fragmentation numbers and time scales. It turns out that a fragmentation number of the order of the observed one (N is greater-than or equivalent to 104.5) is consistent with the theoretically required value for a reasonable binding energy and leads to time scales which allow the formation of all classes of objects.
