A rigorous equation is stated and it is shown that the spatial derivative of
the Cole-Hopf solution of the KPZ dynamics is a solution of this equation. The
approximation of the Cole-Hopf solution by the density fluctuations in weakly
asymmetric exclusion is used in conjunction with a weak resolvent method
instead of a Boltzmann-Gibbs principle.
