The original Gull-Daniel algorithm for image reconstruction in radio astronomy based on the maximum entropy method is briefly reviewed, and two improvements to the technique are proposed. These are the use of an optimal scale factor and the use of a second-order solution. The advantages arising from these revisions are analyzed and illustrated by numerical examples.
