Ultraviolet properties of the symbiotic stars, and results on AG Dra and other objects, are discussed. Different single and binary model are examined: hot star surrounded by a cool envelope; cool star with a hot envelope; and binary systems. Accretion disks seem to play a role in some cases. Stellar winds from both components, but especially from the cool one, must be taken into account. There is evidence of excess heating of the outer layers of the cool component.
