The computation for four previously found (Ichtiaroglou et al., 1980) families of vertical critical orbits, b(1v), b(2v), c(1v), and c(2v) are extended for mu of greater than 0.5, and the planar stability of the periodic orbits is examined for the whole interval of mu between 0 and 1. Orbits of the b(1v) family are found to be unstable, with the degree of instability increasing with increasing mu. The evolution of the b(2v) and c(1v) families are observed to be similar to that of b(1v), and the instability of the orbits of family b(2v) is weaker than that of b(1v). The c(2v) family ends with a periodic orbit of the planetary type as in the case of b(1v), and the planar stability of its orbits is similar to that of family b(1v).
