The mathematical relationship between the Jurkevich periodogram and a conventional Fourier analysis of the same spectrometric data is examined. It is shown that the only approximation required for the Jurkevich/Fourier relationship is the distribution of the data points across the Jurkevich bins. The effect of the number of Jurkevich bins on periodogram structure is discussed, and various effects related to the phase of the Fourier spectrum are explored.
