The behavior of the Hummer partial redistribution function R(III) as a function of the scattering angle and incoming and outgoing frequencies is investigated. It is found that, when scattering angle tends to 0 or pi, the photons do not scatter coherently, as was implied by Reichel and Vardavas (1975), but are partially redistributed in frequency. A quantum-mechanically consistent counterpart to R(IV) is derived. The form of the redistribution function is more complicated, and its behavior as a function of scattering angle and incoming and outgoing frequencies is discussed.
