The first determinations of Phobos mass have been obtained using Viking-1 spacecraft flybys by Tolson et al. and Christensen et al. in the year 1977. Since that date, many efforts have been made to improve these determinations. Although many studies converged toward an unexpected low value of Phobos mass, no real agreement has been found yet. We reexplored this question in view of Mars Express close flybys with Phobos. A first test has been done using the first Mars Express close flyby dedicated to gravity pass at a distance of 900 km. Further Phobos flybys by Mars Express are expected in March 2006.
