The generation of cosmic rays and of non-thermal emission in extragalactic radio sources is assumed to take place through a series of collisions between the charged particles and the magnetic fields of the clouds that populate the considered medium. The authors assume the particles to be accelerated through the Fermi mechanism and to suffer energy losses through the unavoidable synchrotron process. They develop a finite difference scheme to compute the energy change of a particle through many such interactions, and derive the equilibrium form of the resulting energy. The evolution of the power law spectrum in such a medium is also discussed.
