Scientific paper
A new recurrence relation for transmission and absorption functions of IR radiating gases analogous to the familiar recurrence relations for the exponential integral functions is derived. Applications of this to the determination of transmission and absorption functions for a band model including line structure effects illustrate the usefulness of the result.
