The Brazilian Association for the Advancement of Science (SBPC) annual meeting was held in Ceará State, and the city of Sobral was the inspiration for a number of events. The reason of this was obviously the 1919 British astronomical expedition to observe the solar eclipse, on May, 29th. The goal was to confront observations with the General Relativity predictions concerning the gravitational bending of light. It was several times repeated, in many press reports, that ``... the famous experience during the 1919 solar eclipse proved that the theory of General Relativity was right''. It is recognized nowadays that this statement is not true. Technical and instrumental conditions at the time did not allow such conclusion. I present here arguments from published sources that confirm this view of the solar eclipse observations. Of course, this alternative view on Sobral's events does not diminish, in no way, its importance in the general context of the history of contemporary science. Sobral's events will always be remembered as a milestone in it, and the reason of proud to all of us, Brazilian scientists. In its correspondent perspective, of course.
