The authors designed and fabricated a radiometer employing an n-type InSb detector, for astronomical observations in the submillimeter range and shortward portion of the millimeter range. The device features a large-aperture immersion lens, variable antenna feed angle, and remote control of the position of the radiometer input relative to the antenna focus. The design of the radiometer, and the radiometer components and accessories (lens, light guide, interferometer, filter set, detector) are described. The radiometer features a broad spectral sensitivity band, 0.2 to 5 mm. A Fabry-Perot interferometer is used for observations in narrow spectral bands. The radiometer design allows for use of a single beam pattern (with amplitude modulation) or modulation of the beam pattern (with remote-controlled reset to the single beam pattern mode).
