A 25.6 MHz bandwidth radio telescope survey of the LMC region was performed in December 1980 and May 1981. Two-hour dispersion measurements were made at 7, 106, 205, and 700 cm/pc. A total of 29 beam positions were searched for evidence of pulsars, yielding one source with a mean flux over 1.2 mJy. The pulse period was calculated as 0.9571407 (+ or - 3 sec) at epoch JD 2444732.7. The pulse amplitude fluctuated on a scale of tens of minutes. A distance of 5 kpc was estimated, 2.5 kpc from the galactic plane. Consideration of further evidence led to the conclusion that the pulsar is in the LMC, has a mean flux of 1.4 mJy, a peak flux of about 30 mJy, and a luminosity of 3000 mJy kpc-sq. Further research is necessary to check an association of the position with a previously observed compact variable detected during a soft X ray survey.
