A method is proposed for observationally testing the hypothesis that active galactic nuclei contain a massive black hole which is surrounded by an accretion disk serving as an energy source. An observational program of 64 objects, selected using Aldrovandi's (1981) model, is described. It is suggested that as many current electrophotometrical estimations as possible should be made, and that the spectrophotometrical data should cover the 3700-8000-S wavelength range.
