The present paper proposes a systems model to assess the reliability of each operation of a Mars sample retrieval mission in order to obtain the most complete information possible. Instrumentation efficiency is analyzed in accordance with developed landing site criteria. Candidate-sites were tested by this systems approach and they include the principal characteristics of the project's scientific goals and technical constraints.
