The gamma Dor stars are late A/early F main-sequence stars which exhibit gravity (g)-mode pulsations with periods around one day. The delta Sct stars, on the other hand, are pressure (p)-mode pulsators with periods typically of a few hours. Despite this fundamentally different pulsational behaviour, the regions of these two classes of pulsator in the HR diagram overlap.
