The light emitted by a luminous ring in Kepler motion around a black hole is subject to both Doppler and gravitational spectral shifts. In this paper a rigorous solution is obtained for a Lorentz profile under the Schwarzschild metric. Its relevance to the identification of spectral line of the quasar 1604+179 in the Hercules cluster of galaxies is discussed.
