A description is presented of a practical method to resolve the problems of calculating systematic corrections in luminosity calibrations due to observational errors in trigonometric parallaxes. Given generally valid simplifying assumptions about the velocity and space distribution of the stars in question, the distance information contained in the stellar proper motions can be brought to bear on the problem. Attention is given to the distribution of parallaxes, theoretical considerations regarding the distribution of proper motions, observations related to the distribution of proper motions and the application of the observational data, and the calculation of the luminosity corrections.
