Voyager Mission photographs suggest that some of Saturn's icy satellites have undergone important surface modifications during their history, while others have not, in view of the many old craters on the surface of Minas, the few and young craters on the surface of Encedalus, and the uneven distribution of cratering on the surface of Dione. It is proposed that irreversible phase transitions between amorphous and cubic ice, and other, similar phase transitions, may provide a low energy resurfacing mechanism for the satellites in question.
